Surgical Skills

The J. Roland Folse, MD Surgical Skills Center, in partnership with Memorial Medical Center, allows students and medical professionals to stay on the leading edge of practice and technology by honing their skills in a simulated surgical environment. The surgical skills center, which includes computer simulators, virtual reality technology and specially designed procedure modules, is used by every SIU residency program, as well as practicing physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants; emergency medical personnel; radiology and surgical tech students; and members of the military.

Residents using the lab come from general surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, urology, emergency medicine, OB/GYN, internal medicine, family medicine, neurosurgery, primary care and third- and fourth-year medical students.
